Jon Antonucci was born in Ft. Collins Colorado - about 60 miles north of the Mile High city of Denver. He was homeschooled from Kindergarten all the way until his senior year in high school. Throughout his schooling he was educated by “A Beka Book” – a correspondence program through Pensacola Christian School. Although he was schooled at home that did not keep him home.
He was taught a good work-ethic by his parents and at the very young age of 7 he was out in the neighborhood mowing lawns and doing peoples yard work. By the age of 12 he was literally working 5 different jobs per day.
His recreation appetite was satisfied by a variety of sports, his favorite being football, which he enjoyed playing both officially as well as in the street with his siblings and neighbors.
He doesn’t really consider it a sport as much as an art, but Martial arts have been a passion of his since he was about 11. He would, eventually, after about a decade of training, be awarded 3 different black-belts. His martial arts career really took off after, with his family, he moved to Glendale, AZ. Despite his young age, Young Champions of America, a company dedicated to offering high-quality sports programs to low-income families, offered Jon an opportunity to teach his beloved martial arts.
Unfortunately it was during his time at YCOA that Jon allowed his inflated ego to cause his life to go from a highly promising future to a devastating past. And after receiving an excellent education, being raised in a very conservative Christian home, having a promising future in business, and having no excuse whatsoever; Jon chose to participate in a criminal act that would cause over 1.5 million dollars in damage and would tragically take the life of his best friend Josh Robinson.
The terrible choice that Jon made not only cost the obvious victim (his former employer and best friends family) dearly, but also created victims of hundreds, if not thousands of others, as all of YCOA – students, parents, staff, etc, and the community in general would be greatly affected. The result for Jon was a 14-year prison sentence.
Since his arrest, Jon says “I am so deeply sorry for all of the pain and suffering that I have caused”. He also promises to “use the time I’ve been given to improve the lives of myself and others spiritually, mentally, and physically”. In a place that in reality is more of a “crime university” than a criminal deterrent, Jon is working very hard to do the work that he believes god has called him to do. “I’m just so grateful that God has given me another chance” said Jon. “I know it is only by his grace that I am what I am”.
It is Jon’s intent to do all he can do to help himself and others through the use of bible studies and even secular programs with, of course, a Christian slant while incarcerated.
